Porthmeor Surfing is not a sport, it’s a lifestyle.
Surfers Quick Guide, Perfect wind when a West-northwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the South
A fairly exposed beach with just enough shelter to prevent overly choppy waters, Porthmeor is well recognised as one of West Cornwall’s best surfing beaches. Though often producing quite a short ride, the surf is still often touted for its consistency and high quality, producing some excellent hollow breaks. The local St Ives surf school provides a great option for anyone wanting to get into the sport, while more intermediate surfers will be able to touch up their skills. If you’re not quite ready to get to your feet, local bodyboard hire can be just as exhilarating!
Popular with surfers and swimmers alike, Porthmeor is a soft, sandy beach located on the doorstep of Tate St Ives, nestled in the shelter of two headlands.
Porthmeor Beach is patrolled by RNLI Lifeguards during the summer months.
