Saunton Sands is a long, open sandy beach beside Braunton Burrows in North Devon. Its rolling beach-break waves are especially popular with longboarders and learners on smaller, gentler days, while bigger Atlantic swells can provide plenty of challenge for experienced surfers.
Saunton faces west into the Atlantic swell. Easterly winds are generally offshore and can help tidy up the waves, while westerly onshore winds often make the surf choppier. Conditions vary considerably with the tide and banks, and larger swells can bring powerful waves and rip currents.
