🏄 Porthcurno Beach Surf Guide
Porthcurno is a beautiful sandy cove near Land’s End, framed by steep granite cliffs below the Minack Theatre. It faces roughly south, so the amount of swell reaching the beach depends strongly on direction, period, tide and shelter from the headlands. Powerful waves can arrive even when the bay looks inviting.
This is a steeply shelving beach rather than a reliably gentle beginner surf spot. Larger south or south-westerly swell can produce dumping shorebreak and strong rip currents; offshore modelled wave heights are not the same as breaking wave heights. Observe the sea, check tides and follow local lifeguard advice before entering.

⚠️ Porthcurno Beach Surf Safety
Porthcurno is a steeply shelving beach with strong currents, potentially heavy shorebreak and a recognised risk of rip currents. Keep away from the foot of unstable cliffs because of rockfall, and watch the rising tide so you are not cut off against the rocks. In 2026, RNLI lifeguard patrols ran from 16 May to 27 September (10am–6pm); outside those dates there is no scheduled patrol. Always check current RNLI information: no flags means no lifeguards. Never use a model surf score as a safety rating. If someone is in difficulty, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
