🏄 St Ives Surf Guide
St Ives has several beaches with very different wave exposure. Porthmeor, on the Atlantic-facing side of town, is the main surf beach and can produce fun, sometimes powerful waves. Porthminster, near the supplied forecast coordinates, is much more sheltered and is usually better suited to swimming or paddleboarding than consistent surfing.
Harbour Beach and Porthgwidden are also relatively sheltered. When planning a surfing session, check Porthmeor's conditions independently; the regional offshore wave height shown here is not a Porthmeor breaking-wave prediction and may not represent surf at Porthminster.

Porthmeor can develop powerful shorebreak, rip currents and changing sandbanks, especially in larger Atlantic swell. Sheltered Porthminster and the harbour are not automatically safe: watch for tides, boats, slippery rocks and changing conditions. Use lifeguarded areas when available and follow the current flags. In an emergency, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
