Wave Conditions
Gwithian’s waves are typically exposed, meaning they are more open to swell from various directions. The beach break works in both left and right directions, providing options for both regular and goofy-footed surfers.
While Gwithian can produce waves at any time of the year, it performs best during offshore winds from the east southeast. These winds help shape clean, orderly waves. The beach also tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells, with the ideal swell direction coming from the west northwest.
Gwithian Beach is easily accessible by car. There is a large car park near the beach, but it can fill up quickly during peak periods. Alternatively, you can take the scenic coastal footpath from neighboring towns like Hayle.
Gwithian is known for its large crowds, especially during peak season. Due to its accessibility and consistent waves, it attracts surfers from all over the country. If you’re looking for a more secluded surf session, consider visiting during off-peak times or weekdays.
